On Tuesday, December 11th the Greater Barrington Chamber of Commerce hosted its monthly Business After Hours event at the Rochester Country Club. The program featured a presentation by the Barrington Library Foundation (BLF). Library Trustee President, Lindsey Maziarz, introduced Foundation Directors Traci Bisson, Kim Nicols, and Marie Harris, who presented details of the Foundation’s fund raising efforts. To date nearly a half million dollars has been raised from individuals, families, businesses and grants to go toward the building of a new library and community center and reduce the cost of a bond to be presented to voters in March of 2019.
The Foundation presented detailed plans for the new building, including a large program room that can be separated from the library and made available for evening community events when the library is closed.
The current library has long since outgrown its existing space. It circulates about 100,000 items a year and traffic counts record almost 50,000 visitor trips annually.
Jeff Parks from Bauen Corporation, the project’s construction management company, met with local contractors who showed interest in being included on the bid list for sub contractors.
A large crowd of Chamber members attended the event, won door prizes donated by friends of the BLF, and enjoyed an assortment of hors d’oeuvres generously provided by the Rochester Country Club.
